How Was Jesus' Ministry Supported

What enabled Jesus to effectively engage in full-time ministry? Many people have the misconception that Jesus just snapped his fingers, and multiplied fish and bread everywhere he went, but that was not always the case. In certain situations, Jesus performed a miracle of provision, but his ministry was mainly supported in a way that may shock many people.

TEAMWORK IN MINISTRY

Before we dive into the Scriptures about how Jesus’ ministry was supported, I want to share a powerful passage from Romans 10. The Bible says, “For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13 NKJV). It does not matter what sin you committed, when you cry out to God in repentance, he will save you, forgive you, wash you in his blood, and write your name in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

Verse 14 poses a compelling question. “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?” In other words, if people are to be saved from Hell, from eternal darkness and torment, and put their faith in the Lord Jesus, a preacher must declare the Gospel, the good news of salvation, to them.

Jesus said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me because He has anointed Me
to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed” (Luke 4:18 NKJV).

Verse 15 of Romans 10 says, “And how shall they preach unless they are sent?” Someone has to do the sending. It is the minister’s obligation to answer the call of God on his life, and it is the believers’ responsibility to get behind that man or woman of God. The kingdom of God operates through teamwork. Everyone has a part to play.

If a certain ministry is blessing you, helping you grow spiritually, and encouraging and edifying you with the Word of God, it is your duty as a Christian to financially support that minister.

JESUS HAD PARTNERS

Even Jesus needed the support of his followers. The Bible says in Luke 8 that Jesus went through every village and city with his twelve disciples, preaching the good news of the kingdom of God. “And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, and Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance” (Luke 8:2-3 KJV).

The New Living Translation says these people were “were contributing from their own resources to support Jesus and his disciples” (Luke 8:3 NLT). The Living Bible translation reads they “were contributing from their private means to the support of Jesus and his disciples” (Luke 8:3 TLB). And the God’s Word translation states, “they provided financial support for Jesus and his disciples” (Luke 8:3 GW).

Do you see that? Jesus had partners to help him accomplish his work. Even though Jesus was the Son of God, he fulfilled the will of God for his life because a group of people who were blessed, healed, and saved through his ministry got behind him with their finances. God touched the hearts of these people, and they demonstrated their gratitude for the ministry they received from Jesus and partnered with him, enabling him to hold meetings and travel with his twelve disciples, who forsook everything to help him with his work.
