God Will Take Care of You

There is a place called “there”, and when you get “there”, the provision will come. There is protection “there”. There is direction “there”. Sometimes you are not receiving the sustenance you need because you are in the wrong place.

A Place Called “There”

After Elijah the prophet confronted King Ahab for his wickedness and told him that there would be no rain for many years, Ahab wanted to kill him. And the Lord told Elijah, “Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee THERE” (1 Kings 17:3-4 KJV).

Everybody has a place called “there”. It may be a physical place. It may be a spiritual place, but you have to get “there”. Where is your “there”? Where is God prompting you to go? Listen to his leading. He knows what he is doing.

Elijah obeyed God’s Word, and he went to the brook Cherith. Just as God said, the ravens brought him bread and meat every morning and evening, and he drank from the brook. All these food delivery services are late. God started this business thousands of years ago. God used the ravens like we use drones today to deliver food to his servant. Elijah had it made. All he had to do was rub the sleep out of his eyes and wake up to a breakfast of bread and meat, but after a while, the brook dried up. What happened?

When Your Brook Dries Up

Some of you can relate to Elijah. You were experiencing promotion after the next and suddenly you got laid off. Life was going well for you and your family, and suddenly you experienced something that shook your finances. Maybe your business took a sudden downward spiral.

Sometimes God allows certain things to happen to us, so we do not have our faith in the methods he uses to bless us but in God himself. God will make sure you are depending on him.

Hadn’t God told Elijah to go to the brook Cherith? Yes. But that season was about to come to an end, and God was trying to get Elijah’s attention. Sometimes when your brook of provision dries up that is a signal from the Holy Spirit that your season is about to shift. Glory to God! That is a word for someone.

Once again, God spoke to Elijah, and he said, “Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell THERE: behold, I have commanded a widow woman THERE to sustain thee” (1 Kings 17:9). Again, Elijah obeyed God, and he went to Zarephath.

Faith Requires Action

Some of us want the provision before we get to the place called “there”. Some of us want the provision before taking a step of faith, but that is not how faith works. If we want Jesus to turn our water into wine, we have to fill the water pots. We have a part to play. Your breakthrough is going to require your cooperation. Are you willing to obey God? Faith doesn’t always make sense, but if it did, it wouldn’t be faith. When you obey God, the provision will come.

When Elijah arrived at the gate of Zarephath, there was a woman there gathering sticks. And Elijah asked her for something to drink. As she was going to get some water, he also asked for some bread. The widow replied, “As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die” (1 Kings 17:12). She was right. If she were to eat her seed, she and her son would die.

God always asks us to give right when things are tight. Why? He is challenging us to grow in our faith. If we are never challenged, we will never break through. Thank God for men of God who are willing to challenge us.

Elijah told the woman to not be afraid. Make me a cake first, and afterward, make some for you and your son. The Bible says, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33). Elijah said, “For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth” (1 Kings 17:14).

The widow obeyed the Word of the Lord, and God honored her faith and gave her a miracle. Every time she went back to her containers, there was flour and oil. God supernaturally sustained her and her family in the middle of a famine because she was willing to take him at his word and put him first.

The Bible says, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Let’s Pray

Father God, Pastor Aimee and I join our faith with your people. There are many whose backs are against the wall. Many people are facing hard times, but you are Jehovah Jireh, our provider. You are our good shepherd, and you will supply all our needs according to your riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). Honor their faith as they walk in obedience to you. Blow their minds. Open the windows of heaven and pour them out a blessing that they will not have enough room to receive (Malachi 3:10). In Jesus’ name, amen.
