Refuse to Take No For An Answer
What do you want God to do in your life? Don’t be quick to give up. Just because God did not answer you the first time does not mean he did not hear you. Delay does not mean denial. Be persistent with your request. God cannot ignore faith. Jesus said, “Men ought always to pray, and not to faint” (Luke 18:1 KJV). If God made you a promise, dig your heels in and stand your ground until that word manifests in your life.
KEEP ON ASKING
The Syrophoenician woman in Matthew 15 was a woman who refused to take “no” for an answer. She had heard of Jesus and came and fell at his feet, begging him to deliver her daughter who was possessed with a demon.
“But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us” (Matthew 15:23). Jesus completely ignored the woman, but he wasn’t being rude. Jesus was testing her. He was probing her. He wanted to know how badly she wanted a miracle.
What do you do when it seems like God doesn’t hear you? Don’t be discouraged. Maybe he is testing you. Be like the widow woman before the unjust judge. Ask and keep on asking until he gives you your heart’s desire.
Finally, when Jesus answered, his response was not what the woman wanted to hear. “I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel,” he said. Some of us would have given up and walked away, but this woman was aggressive.
POWER OF PRAISE
“Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me” (Matthew 15:25). This woman’s worship got the Lord’s attention. There is power in your worship.
When Paul and Silas were wrongfully beaten and imprisoned for preaching the Gospel and casting a devil out of a woman, they did not complain. Instead, they sang praises to God, and their praise got God’s attention. God sent an earthquake, and the chains fell off their hands, and the prison doors flew open. As a result, the jailor and his entire family were converted.
Don’t underestimate the power of your praise. When three nations came against King Jehoshaphat, he put the praise team in front of the army. God heard their praise, and he sent confusion into the enemy’s camp, and they destroyed one another. Jehoshaphat didn’t even have to fight.
JUST GIVE ME A CRUMB
So, the woman worshiped Jesus, and he responded. “But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs” (Matthew 15:26). The woman was a Syrophoenician, which meant she was a Gentile, and the Jews referred to the Gentiles as dogs.
If many of us were in this woman’s shoes, we probably would have got offended by this time. First, Jesus ignored her. Then, he said he wasn’t sent to her. Now he called her a dog. But the Syrophoenician woman was too desperate to be offended. She needed God to set her daughter free. When you are desperate, you don’t have time to be offended.
“And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table” (Matthew 15:27). It’s all right. Call me a dog. Just give me the crumbs because if there is power in the loaf, there is power in the crumbs. If there is deliverance in the loaf, there is deliverance in the crumbs. If there is healing in the loaf, there is healing in the crumbs. All I need is a crumb because Satan is no match to even a crumb of God’s power.
YOUR ANSWER IS ON THE WAY
Jesus was amazed at her persistence. “Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour” (Matthew 15:28). The Bible says in Mark 7 that when the woman arrived home, “she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed” (Mark 7:30).
Refuse to take “no” for an answer. Do not give up on your prayers. When you believe God for a miracle, you will be tested. Your faith will be tried, but you have to hang in there until the devil is gone out of your house, your spouse, your children, your health, your finances. Don’t give up. Your answer is on the way. God cannot ignore your faith. He will answer you and give you your heart’s desire.
