Let Go and Let God
Quit trying to solve your problems in your own strength. The Bible says, “It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep” (Psalm 127:2 KJV). You were not meant to carry the weight of your trials and challenges by yourself. Give your burdens to God. Don’t try to make things happen in your own strength.
Most people make their plans and then ask God to bless them. But that is not how it should be. First seek God through prayer and meditating on the Scriptures. And when you find out God’s will for your life, God will bless you and make you successful.
Trust God. Do not stay up late worrying and fretting, trying to figure out how everything will work out. Stressing is not going to improve your situation. Staying up late and then getting up early worrying over the same problem is not going to help you. Go to bed. Give your problems to God and get a good night’s rest. God’s got this.
GIVE GOD CONTROL
In Acts 12, the church was under severe attack. King Herod began to persecute the followers of Jesus to gain the Jews’ favor, and he killed James, the brother of John, one of the twelve disciples. “And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also” (Acts 12:3). Herod imprisoned Peter, placing him under the guard of sixteen soldiers, but the
church prayed without ceasing for Peter’s deliverance.
“And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison” (Acts 12:6). Peter is too much for me. Herod was going to execute him the next day, and there he was, sleeping. This man is too spiritual for me. I’m not there yet. You would have heard the chains clanging together all night. I would have been shaking and praying up a storm in that prison.
This story used to really puzzle me. How could Peter sleep when he knew he would be killed the next day? Peter learned something from Jesus. Jesus had slept through a storm. Why? Peter knew his life was in God’s hands. As long as he was trying to handle the situation in his flesh, he would be hindering God from taking control and working all things out.
The Bible says God does not slumber nor sleep (Psalm 121:3-4). It does not make sense for both you and God to be up. Go to sleep. Let go and let God do what only he can. The moment you reach that place where you say, “God, I turn it over to you,” God will start working on your behalf. Before you know it, your prayer will be answered, and you will be set free by the power of God. I feel the Holy Spirit.
GET UP!
So, Peter went to sleep. “And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands” (Acts 12:7). This man was knocked out good. The angel had to wake him up. And the moment he got up, the chain fell from off his hands and feet.
Who is God speaking to? I dare someone to get up as an act of faith. The chains are falling off of your life. The chains are falling off of your marriage, children, health, finances, career, and ministry. God has heard your prayer, and he is delivering you from every bondage.
“And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me” (Acts 12:8). Get dressed. You are about to go places.
A RIDICULOUS BREAKTHROUGH
So Peter followed the angel. They passed the first and second guard posts, and when they came to the iron gate that led to the city, it opened by itself for them. Peter thought he was in a vision. “And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews” (Acts 12:11).
God is about to give you a miracle that will shock you. You will get such a ridiculous breakthrough, you will think you are dreaming. “When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream” (Psalm 126:1). Put your faith in God. He is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that you can ask or think (Ephesians 3:20).
HELP ANSWER SOMEONE'S PRAYER
God has called us to open spiritual prison doors, “to open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house” (Isaiah 42:7). You can play a role in someone’s miracle, and when you help answer the prayer of someone who is crying out for hope and healing, God will honor your request and work on your behalf.
As many of you know, we have an opportunity to go to Pakistan in November to preach to over 100,000 people. We are in the process of raising $60,000 and are asking our partners to stand with us and sow a seed of $1,000, $750, $500, $250, $100, $50, or $20 to help us cover the costs of the meeting.
We will be using 550 buses to bring families to the evangelistic meeting, as well as renting a tent and chairs, lighting and sound equipment, a generator, and more. And we’ll be feeding ushers, bringing in worship singers, arranging team visits, and covering travel expenses.
If you have already given, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. And if you have not yet given towards the meeting, we encourage you to do what you can. God will honor your gift, and many lives will be touched because of your generosity and sacrifice.
