For Such a Time As This
You may not be able to see God at work in your life, but he is moving behind the scenes, orchestrating your steps in line with his divine plan. The Bible says the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord (Psalm 37:23). You may wonder why you find yourself in certain seasons or places in your life, but God has you right where you need to be to accomplish his ultimate purpose.
We see in the story of Joseph that God made all the trials he went through work together for good in the end. Even when Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery, Potiphar’s wife lied on him, and Potiphar threw him into prison, God had a plan. In the prison, Joseph interpreted the butler’s dream, and the butler mentioned him to Pharaoh who changed Joseph’s life in a matter of moments. In one day, Joseph went from being a prisoner to the prime minister of Egypt. And with the wisdom God gave him, Joseph was able to save an entire nation from one of the most severe famines of that time.
GOD HAS A PLAN
God is always a thousand steps ahead of the enemy. And we see again in the book of Esther that God sent someone ahead of the king’s evil official, Haman, to preserve the lives of his chosen people. It is interesting that God is not mentioned once in the book of Esther. No prophetic words were given. In fact, God himself seemed silent, but God was at work all along, making everything work together for good.
Haman was the king’s most powerful official, and he was so wicked that Mordecai, another of the king’s officials and a Jew, refused to bow down to him when he passed by. Haman was so angry that he tried to have Mordecai killed, and he tricked the king into signing a decree to kill all the Jews in the empire. But Haman didn’t know that the queen was a Jew, and she was also Mordecai’s cousin.
MOMENT OF DESTINY
When the Jews heard of Haman’s decree, they were greatly distressed and mourned deeply. Mordecai sent a message to Esther, asking her to defend her people, but she sent a message back to him saying that anyone who appeared before the king uninvited would immediately be put to death unless the king held out his golden scepter. “And the king has not called for me to come to him for thirty days,” Esther said.
But Mordecai was a man full of faith, and he replied, “If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place” (Esther 4:14). God wants you to know that even if your boss man doesn’t give you the promotion that you deserve or that man is refusing to pay child support that he will still make a way for you. God hears your prayers, and he is committed to coming through for you.
“Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for such a time as this?” Mordecai said. It is time to make a decision to trust God. In the midst of uncertainty and negativity, you must realize that God has brought you into his kingdom for such a time as this. God does not make mistakes, and he does nothing haphazardly. If he is giving you favor it is because of his divine purpose. Even if you are suffering, God can turn it around and use it for his glory. He has a plan, and he will make all things work together for good.
FROM TRAGEDY TO TRIUMPH
Esther understood her assignment, and she told Mordecai to gather all the Jews and fast three days for her. When she went before the king, God gave her favor, and he held out his golden scepter. In the end, the king hanged Haman on the gallows he made for Mordecai for plotting to destroy the Jews. God caused him to fall into the trap he created (Psalm 57:6). And God gave the wealth of the wicked to the just because the king gave Mordecai Haman’s house (Proverbs 13:22). The king also promoted him and made him the prime minister, and the Jews were given authority to defend themselves. And they were victorious. Instead of weeping, they rejoiced and celebrated with feasting and gladness.
God turned what seemed would be a great tragedy into a great triumph, and he can do the same for you. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and he is no “respector of persons” (Hebrews 13:8, Romans 2:11). He will come through for you. Trust him. Do what he has called you to do and take a step of faith. You are chosen for such a time as this.
