A True Visitation From God
How can we determine if a dream, prophecy, or spiritual message is divinely inspired? We should always compare that revelation or supernatural experience to the Word of God. A true divine visitation will never contradict the Word of God. It will always line up.
VICTORY THROUGH THE WORD
In Luke 4, Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness where He was tempted by the devil for forty days. John the Baptist had just baptized Jesus in the Jordan River, and the power of the Holy Spirit came upon Jesus in bodily form, descending on Him like a dove. The heavens opened, “And a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased” (Luke 3:22, KJV). God was confirming to John the Baptist and to the crowd gathered that Jesus was the Messiah.
But when Jesus battled the devil in the wilderness, He did not get the victory by pointing to His supernatural experiences. He did not talk about the dove or the voice. What did He do? He overcame Satan with the Word of God, saying, “It is written!”
No matter how many dreams, prophecies, and supernatural experiences we have, if we do not know the Scriptures, if we do not have a firm foundation on the Word of God, we are no match for the enemy.
THE HIGHEST AUTHORITY
In Luke 24, after Jesus was crucified and risen from the dead, He appeared to two of His disciples on the Road to Emmaus. They did not recognize Him, and he asked them, “What are you talking about, and why are you sad?” They replied, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people” (Luke 24:19). They explained that it was the third day since He had been crucified. “We had hoped that He was the Messiah who would rescue Israel,” they said.
“Then He said unto them, ‘O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into His glory?’ And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, He expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning Himself” (Luke 24:25-27).
The resurrected Son of God who has all authority and all power in heaven and on earth proved to His disciples with Scripture that He was the Messiah. The Word of God is the highest authority. The psalmist said, “For Thou hast magnified Thy word above all Thy name” (Psalm 138:2).
Note also in Luke 24 that it says, “He expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning Himself.” One way you can tell if a teaching, dream, prophesy, or revelation is from God is that it will always glorify Jesus.
MEDITATE ON THE WORD
Jesus is the Word of God in the flesh. The Bible says, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only Begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).
Nothing is above the Word of God. If Jesus always pointed to the Word of God, how much more do you and I need to consult with and meditate on the Scriptures? God’s Word will lead us, guide us, help us overcome temptation, reveal Jesus to us, and help us discern if something is from the Lord or not (Psalm 119:105, Hebrews 4:12).
Continue to study the Word of God. The more we study it, the more we will be able to recognize when we experience a true visitation from God.
THE POWER TO CHANGE LIVES
What an honor and a privilege we have to teach people all around the world the Word of God and how it can set them free! As they learn the Word and how to apply it in their everyday lives, they gain the power to stand up against the devil, to declare “It is written,” as Jesus did, and to see the devil flee!
As a partner, you help us take the Word to the nations. You make it available through our ministry opportunities. You send it into homes on the airwaves. Like power lines, you transfer the power of the gospel to those looking for help, looking for deliverance, looking to build their faith. What you do is important. In fact, it’s vital.
Thank you for being a generous giver. Thank you for sowing seeds to keep us before the people, sharing revelation knowledge. Please continue giving as you feel led. What you do and how you do it honors the Lord and blesses His people.
