The Lord Will Give You the Victory

There is a time to pray, fast, meditate on the Scriptures, and seek God’s guidance. But when you are done with all that, there is also a time to act on your faith. The Bible says that faith without works is dead (James 2:17).
Still Small Voice
In 1 Samuel 14, the Philistines had mustered a great army against the children of Israel. The Bible says they had as many warriors as the grains of sand on the seashore (1 Samuel 14:5). That is a lot of soldiers. Israel’s king, Saul, was backslidden, and the Israelites were in hiding. To make matters worse, many of the Israelite soldiers didn’t have any weapons because they were not blacksmiths. They often went to the Philistines to sharpen their weapons. Only Saul and Jonathan had a sword.
One day, Jonathan told his armorbearer, “Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised…” Jonathan just had a nudge in his heart to test the waters. “It may be that the Lord will work for us...” Jonathan was not even sure how God was going to come through. All he knew was he had this idea that he couldn’t shake. “For nothing restrains the Lord from saving by many or by few” (1 Samuel 14:6 NKJV).
Too often, we are looking for those big moments. We want God to lead us with a pillar of fire and thunder and lightning. But we have to be sensitive to the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit.
“So his armorbearer said to him, ‘Do all that is in your heart. Go then; here I am with you, according to your heart’” (1 Samuel 14:7). I love surrounding myself with these types of people. We all need someone in our lives to come into agreement with us, to stand in faith with us. The Bible says two are better than one (Ecclesiastes 4:9). Don’t try to be a lone ranger. We all need help.
Calculated Risk
“We will show ourselves to them,” Jonathan told his armorbearer. “If they say, ‘Wait until we come to you,’ then we will stand in our place.” “But if they say thus, ‘Come up to us,’ then we will go up. For the Lord has delivered them into our hand, and this will be a sign to us” (1 Samuel 14:10).
Where did Jonathan get this idea? It didn’t even really make sense, but faith doesn’t always make sense. Jonathan was taking a calculated risk. If everything God asked us to do made sense, it wouldn’t be faith. God told Abraham to go, not knowing where he was going. That made absolutely no sense. Jesus told Peter to come and step out on the water in the middle of a raging storm. That made no sense, but Peter stepped out in faith, and a miracle happened. He began to walk on top of his storm.
Bust the Move
When the Philistines saw Jonathan and his armorbearer, they began to make fun of them. “Come up here, and we will teach you a lesson!” they shouted. They thought they were insulting Jonathan and his armorbearer, but Jonathan got excited. That was the confirmation he needed. “Come up after me, for the Lord has delivered them into the hand of Israel,” Jonathan told his armorbearer.
It’s time to bust the move! God is on your side, and if God be for you, who can be against you? (Romans 8:31).
“And Jonathan climbed up on his hands and knees with his armorbearer after him…” (1 Samuel 14:13). Jonathan climbing up on his hands and knees represents a position of prayer. If you want to go up, you have to kneel down.
You must be dependent on God. The psalmist said, “I will lift up my eyes to the hills —From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1-2). The Bible says that if you humble yourself, God will exalt you (James 4:10).
And the Philistines fell before Jonathan and his armorbearer. Jonathan and his armorbearer looked outnumbered, but when God is on your side, you and God equal the majority. The battle you are facing is not yours. It belongs to the Lord (2 Chronicles 20:15). You will beat the odds! God will give you the victory!
Homecoming Sunday
Homecoming Sunday is less than three weeks away! Will you be there? Homecoming Sunday is about you, our church family, partners, and viewers all around the world. We want to gather together under one roof for a powerful time of worship, word, fellowship and food, as we celebrate our second church anniversary.
We cannot wait to meet you! We want to join our faith with you and lay hands on everyone in attendance. God is going to move in an unprecedented way. Many are going to be uplifted, healed, set free, and delivered by the power of God. There is power in agreement!
