The Prayer That Refuses to Take No For An Answer

Saints, I want to stir something up in your spirit this month. We serve a God who hears and answers prayer. Jesus said in Matthew 7:7–8, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." That is not a suggestion — that is a divine invitation from the throne room of heaven. God is saying, "Come to Me. Bring it to Me. I am waiting to move on your behalf."
In 1 Samuel chapter 1, we find a woman by the name of Hannah who understood something that too many believers have forgotten: there is a kind of prayer that refuses to quit. Hannah was married to Elkanah, a man who had two wives. The other wife, Peninnah, had given birth to many children — and she made sure Hannah knew it. She taunted her. She provoked her year after year. She rubbed it in Hannah's face every chance she got.
But here is what the enemy did not understand: the Lord had shut up Hannah's womb — not because He had rejected her, but because He was waiting for the appointed time. God was about to bring forth Samuel — a prophet who would anoint the first king of Israel, who would anoint King David, whose lineage would eventually bring forth the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. God's delay was not denial. God's timing is perfect.
Some of you are trying to produce something out of season — and it is not going to happen until it is God's time. The Bible says, "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven." God has your season timed. He has it scheduled. And when that time comes for you to conceive and give birth to what He has promised, there are not enough devils in hell to stop the plan and will of God from being accomplished in and through your life!
DESPERATE FAITH GETS GOD'S ATTENTION
The Bible says Hannah was in bitterness of soul, and she prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore. Have you ever wept sore in the presence of God? Have you ever cried until you had no more tears left because you were so desperate for God to move? That is the kind of prayer heaven responds to. That is the kind of faith that refuses to take no for an answer.
Hannah prayed so fervently that Eli the high priest thought she was drunk. He had not seen anyone pray like that in a long time. But Hannah was not drunk — she was desperate. And when you get that desperate, when you get that aggressive in your faith, you are going to be misunderstood. People will take your faith for foolishness. They will say you have gone off the deep end. But we have not gone off the deep end — we believe in God! We need Him to move! We need Him to step into our situations and turn things around!
Hannah told Eli, "I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord." And Eli spoke a word of agreement: "Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of Him."
THE POWER OF AGREEMENT
Notice what happened next. The moment Eli agreed with Hannah's prayer, everything shifted. The Bible says the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad. Something broke in the spirit realm when that man of God spoke in agreement with her petition. Jesus said in Matthew 18:19, "If two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven."
There is explosive, supernatural power in the prayer of agreement. When two or more believers lock their faith together on a matter, hell trembles.
Pastor Aimee and I join our faith with yours right now — we are standing in agreement with you that God has heard your cry. He has seen your tears. He has released the answer and it is on the way. The desires of the righteous shall be granted. This is the confidence we have in Him: if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us — and if we know that He hears us, we have the petitions that we desired of Him.
And the Lord remembered Hannah. She conceived and bore a son, and called his name Samuel — "Because I have asked him of the Lord." God still answers prayer! The answer is on the way!
