Partial Obedience is Disobedience

Aug 2, 2026    Pastor Sean Pinder

There is one thing YOU did not let go of.

YOU obeyed God in almost everything. YOU surrendered the big things, the obvious things, the things everyone could see. But there was one area YOU quietly held back. One thing YOU decided to keep. And YOU have told yourself it is small enough not to matter — that God surely understands, that ninety-five percent obedience is close enough, that the one thing YOU kept could not possibly undo everything else YOU got right.

1 Samuel 15 is the passage that confronts that belief head-on.

Someone was given a clear, complete instruction. Not a vague one. Not one open to interpretation. And he carried out almost all of it — impressively, thoroughly, in front of everyone. But he kept one thing back. One thing that was supposed to be released. And he had what sounded like a genuinely good reason for keeping it — a reason so spiritual, so religious, that most people would have applauded him for it.

It did not matter.

Here is what most people miss. When he was confronted, he did not think he had disobeyed at all. In his own mind, he had obeyed. He pointed to everything he had done right. He truly believed that doing most of it counted as doing it. And the response he received — one sentence that has echoed for three thousand years — exposed the exact lie that most obedient-looking people are quietly living under.

Partial obedience is not most of obedience. It is disobedience wearing a respectable disguise.

There is a specific thing that was said to him in that moment about what God actually values more than the very sacrifices and offerings people use to cover the areas they refuse to surrender. Most people have heard the phrase. Almost no one has let it do to them what it was meant to do. And when YOU hear it in the full weight of this account, YOU will understand why the one thing YOU are keeping is the one thing standing between YOU and everything God has next.

Because what that one kept thing cost him was staggering. It was not a small correction. It was not a slap on the wrist. He lost something he could never get back — and it all traced to the one thing he thought was too small to matter.

What was the one thing? What did it cost him? And what is the one thing YOU have been keeping?

Press play — because partial obedience is disobedience, and the one thing YOU kept could cost YOU everything. This message will show YOU exactly what God is asking YOU to finally release — before it costs YOU what it cost him.
